BREAKING
NEWS! LOST OCEAN FOUND IN GIGANTIC STORE! - BY
N.L. BELARDES February 20, 2005 10:10 am - I’m
thinking Coldplay in the 1970s would have hair like these young
Bakersfield guys. And with Alex walking amongst them Friday
night at Gigantic, I was having an entire retro moment from
my lost 1970s youth of polyester Northern California hillsides.
Enough about that, enter Skyler, keyboardist for the new band,
Lost Ocean, a band not lost at all, but with a full, rich sound
that with further development will transform these young guys
into a hip Bakersfield sensation. A little tentative at first,
Lost Ocean fired themselves up on the fuel provided by Skyler
as he worked more than one set of keyboards, slamming chords,
fingers rolling, curly hair tossing, and he was loving it. Enrique
of The Dalloways looked over at me and we were thinking the
same thing: this Skyler kid rocks! “Oh yeah!” I
met Skyler and Chris (Drummer) after the show. They’re
quiet kids with a lot of talent. I hope they get their website
up soon, and an EP of some of their songs. With that rich keyboard
sound, headphones will be the place for me to really get into
their mysterious Antillian, seven isles of Oceana sounds…which
really translates into: the lost ocean of keyboards that a lot
of bands just don’t’ incorporate into their music
these days has been found. These kids will be exciting to watch
as they develop and come into their own. Bakersfield needs a
hard-rocking Coldplay type of band that can appeal to another
side of the Southern Central Valley’s complex tastes.
